Dowsil FC-2024 - New Fire-Resistant Coating for EV Battery

 
 
Electric vehicle (EV) battery packs produce a significant amount of heat when charging, discharging, or operating under high-performance conditions. This heat can negatively impact battery performance, lifespan, and safety without proper thermal management.
 
To address this challenge, Dow Inc. created the DOWSIL™ FC-2024 Battery Fire Protection Coating, a one-component silicone solution designed to offer superior fire resistance with easy application.
 
Unlike traditional spray coatings, DOWSIL™ FC-2024 can be precisely streamed onto the battery pack lid or housing, eliminating the need to cover or mask other components. This not only improves the efficiency of the application process but also ensures maximum effectiveness.
 
 
Key Benefits of DOWSIL™ FC-2024:
 
 Non-intumescent Coating: This elastomeric coating forms a ceramic layer that resists flames up to 1200°C, protecting the EV battery from hot particles and preventing penetration.
 
 Electrical insulation: Maintains high dielectric strength, ensuring the battery remains protected from electrical failures.
 
 Enhanced thermal management: Lower density (~1.5 g/cm³) and improved thermal insulation make it a better choice over conventional mica sheets.
